What We Believe
We Believe in Redemption.
All people here on earth have willingly rebelled against God through their wrongdoings or sin (Romans 3:23). Because of this sin, all people deserve to be judged and punished by God (Romans 6:23). The Father offers forgiveness and redemption through His Son, Jesus. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ made Him the mediator between humanity and God (1 Timothy 2:5-6). Those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are redeemed through His work on the cross. Salvation comes to a person by God’s grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).
We Believe in the Church.
God has uniquely created us to not only love and serve Him, but to love one another. Our church holds the core value of building community through all that we do (Acts 2:42-47). Our church believes that we are called to take part in these two ordinances, Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion). These things are set aside for those who have been redeemed by the Father, through the Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hopewell is a local church, but the body of Christ is made up of all those who have been redeemed by Christ’s holy life, death, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 12:12-31).
We Believe in the Bible.
The Scriptures (Bible) are a gift from God that He authored through divine inspiration to the earthly writers. Our church believes that it is absolutely inerrant; it contains no flaws or errors. The Bible reveals the history of redemption, the sin and failures of man, the principles by which God judges us, and the offer of mercy and forgiveness to people through faith in Christ (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Romans 15:4).
We Believe in God.
We believe in one God eternally existing as one essence and three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each is equally and wholly God, yet there is one God. Each person has precisely the same nature and attributes and is worthy of precisely the same worship, honor and praise. Our church and all Christians who believe in one God unite with the confession of God’s triune nature (Matt. 28:18-20).
