Operation Christmas Child

“Much of the world has been gripped with fear, and this is especially hard for children,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “Now more than ever, these boys and girls need to know God loves them. Operation Christmas Child delivers the hope found only in Jesus Christ.”

The Samaritan’s Purse project has been collecting and delivering shoebox gifts - filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys - to children worldwide for more than two decades. This is a mission project that everyone can be a part of.

Hopewell has served this missions effort since 2012 as a drop-off location during National Collection Week. In addition to collecting and packing shoeboxes within our own church, we will collect boxes from the community, individuals and other churches, and transport them to the processing center in Charlotte. National Collection Week is always in November every year.

How do you help? First, pray! Pray that God will touch the heart of every child that receives these shoeboxes and that He brings them to faith in Jesus Christ. Secondly, pack a shoebox. Shoeboxes are available in the Sanctuary Vestibule, complete with instructions on how to pack your box. Thirdly, donate. The cost to ship each of these boxes is approximately $10.00 and an additional $6.00 will allow the child to participate in The Greatest Journey - a 12-week discipleship training program. Lastly, volunteer to help us with this missions effort. We need people to staff the drop center - greeters, hosts, unloaders, and cartonizers; people to pray for the ministry, pray over the collected shoeboxes, and pray for any specific requests from the people dropping off boxes; and people to transport the shoeboxes to the processing center in Charlotte. Sign-up sheets will be available in the vestibule starting Sunday, October 30th.
